What does mint leaf powder do on the skin?
It cools and it smells fresh. That is the honest answer, and it is the reason people put it in a mask. It is almost always used as part of a mixture rather than on its own.
How do you make a face mask with it?
Start with a base, clay powder, yoghurt or honey, and stir in a small spoonful of mint leaf powder. Add water a little at a time until you have a paste that spreads. Apply, leave for ten minutes, and rinse with lukewarm water before it dries hard.
What proportion should you use?
Small. Roughly one part mint powder to four or five parts base is plenty. Mint is potent, and more of it means a stronger cooling sensation rather than a better mask.
How do you use it in a scalp mask?
Mix the powder with an oil, or with a clay and water, and work it into the scalp. Leave it ten to fifteen minutes and rinse thoroughly. Rinse longer than you think you need to; plant powder in long hair is stubborn.
How often can you use it?
Once a week on the face is a sensible ceiling for any mask. On the scalp, every other week is enough.
Can you use mint leaf powder near the eyes?
No. Keep it away from the eye area and the lips. The cooling compounds that make it pleasant on a cheek are unpleasant on a mucous membrane. If any gets in your eye, rinse with plenty of lukewarm water.
Should you patch test it?
Yes. Mix a little of the paste you intend to use and put it on the inside of your forearm for ten minutes. Mint is one of the more noticeable plant powders on the skin, so it is worth knowing how you respond before you cover your face with it.
How do you store mint leaf powder?
Cool, dry and closed. Take it out with a dry spoon and never put a wet one back in the jar; damp powder clumps and does not keep.
Can you combine it with other powders?
